The Laser Class Association of India (LCAI) came into being in the year 1986 under the Presidentship of Lt Gen Tripat Singh, AVSM, the then Commandant of Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering, Secunderabad. Necessity to promote this new single handler class was felt because Laser was to be sailed in the next Asian Games. Ten Lasers were initially imported into the country and the first Laser National Championship was held at Hussain Sagar from 30 June to 05 July 1986. The Laser Nationals are being held regularly every year since then.
The Laser Class is one of the most popular classes globally near about 3, 00,000 Boats racing in practically all parts of the world and is still growing at a phenomenal rate that cannot be matched by any other class. It is an Olympic single handler class for men and being sailed in the 1996 Olympic. It has been inducted as the Olympic single hand class for women for the Olympics at Beijing in 2008. The Laser has become very popular in India in the recent years, this class of boat is managed by the Laser Class Association of India (LCAI).
WHAT IS LASER CLASS ASSOCIATION OF INDIA ?
- Laser Class Association of India is a self-administrated association.
- It is a District Body/ Head Office of International Laser Class Association for Indian region.
- It provides co-ordination, organization and communication for the class in India.
- It liaises with national and international authorities.
- It maintains one design rules. Laser Class Association of India place an important part in keeping the laser rules strictly ‘one design’ by preventing changes and providing a measurement structure that maintain the ‘one design’.

WHAT IS LASER SAILING ALL ABOUT IN INDIA ?
To maintain healthy competition at all levels and keeping in tune with the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) policy. The Laser Class Association of India has been conduction National Championships regularly every year. In addition, coaching camps are also held regularly at sailing centers Mumbai, Chennai, Bhopal, Goa & Hyderabad under the guidance of expert coaches from India and abroad. The association successfully conducted the Asia Pacific Laser international Championship in 1991, 1993 & 2001 at Hyderabad.
